Download Java for OS X directly from Oracle. Get the latest version If an app or webpage you want to use asks you to install Java software, you can download the current version of Java for OS X directly from Oracle's website. The information on this page pertains to Oracle Java starting with Java 7, supported with Mac versions 10.7.3 and above. Find the Java Control Panel on Mac Launch the Java Control Panel on Mac (10.7.3 and above) Click on Apple icon on upper left of screen. Go to System Preferences; Click on the Java icon to access the Java Control Panel. Java Preferences Editor. JPrefs is a Java preferences editor that allows viewing and editing of preferences. JPrefs visualizes all Java preferences of your computer in a tree. You can navigate through the tree similar to a file manager GUI and examine and edit all preferences. There are two trees available, user tree and system tree. To get the latest Java from Oracle, you will need Mac OS X 10.7.3 and above. If you have Java 7 or later versions, you will see a Java icon under System Preferences. Java versions 6 and below are listed in the Java Preferences.app located in the Applications Utilities folder on your Mac. Next, select 'Windows Preferences' (PC) or 'Eclipse Preferences' (Mac) in the menu. Then, select 'Java Installed JREs': Click the 'Search' button and select the 'Java' folder. This folder should contain your installed JRE and JDK. (If it contains only the installed JDK, that's also ok).

Software Install Instructions
Java 7 (1.7.x) is required to run the updated version 1.46. Java 6 (1.6.x) is required for all previous versions. These versions no longer function properly with Java 7- make sure to update to version 1.46 if MochiView has stopped functioning after a Java 7 update.
PC
Download the zipped application from the link above. Unzip the file and you’ll see a folder titled ‘MochiView’. Inside the folder you’ll see an executable file called ‘MochiView.exe’. Just double-click the file and MochiView will launch. (TIP: create a shortcut to the executable file and drag it into the quick launch bar.) Do not place the MochiView folder in the Windows ‘Program Files’ folder, as this folder may have restricted file permissions that will prevent MochiView from maintaining a database.
Linux
Download and extract the zipped application from the link above. Run MochiView from the command line by navigating to the ‘INTERNAL_USE’ folder and typing the following:
java -jar -Xms512m -Xmx1024m ChipView.jar
Mac
Download the application from the link above. Just extract the zip file and double-click the application to run (see note above about making sure that you have the proper Java configuration!).
Update Instructions
If you already have a full install of MochiView - and you’re just looking to upgrade to the latest version - upgrading is a simple matter of replacing the current ‘ChipView.jar‘ file in your installation. Where you’ll find the file varies depending on your OS:
PC and Linux
‘ChipView.jar‘ is in the folder titled ‘INTERNAL_USE‘
Mac
Ctrl+Click the application and select ‘Show Package Contents‘ from the menu. Navigate to ‘ContentsResourcesJava‘ and you will find ‘ChipView.jar‘
(It is never a bad idea to back-up your database before updating!)
System Requirements
MochiView v1.46 requires Java 7 (1.7.x) or later. MochiView v1.45 and all previous versions require Java 6 (1.6.x). These versions no longer function properly with Java 7- make sure to update to version 1.46 if MochiView has stopped functioning after a Java 7 update. The fastest way to check your Java version is to visit this website. If your version is v1.7 or higher, you are ready to go. Otherwise, follow the instructions below to obtain the latest version of Java for your operating system.
Windows and Linux
Simply download and install the latest version from the Java website.
Mac
Download and install the latest version of Mac Java. Running the update does not overwrite the previous Java version, nor does it switch v1.7 to the default version. In order to switch the default, navigate to ‘Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Preferences‘ and move Java v7.0 to the top of the list.
Basic system requirements:
Memory
Preferred: 2GB
Required: 1GB
Hard Drive Space
The program itself is small (~10MB), but the database will grow as you import data… especially if you are working with large genomes (e.g. human).
Operating System
MochiView works on any operating system that supports Java v1.6 (see above), and has been tested on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux (Ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04), and Mac OSx 10.5.
